In many parts of the world, children are given more freedom than in the past. Is this a positive or negative development?
Introduction:It is widely observed that children today tend to have less restraint, both at home and at school. Whether this is a positive or negative development largely depends on the nature of their behavior and the context in which it occurs.
🚩Tips:
Body Paragraph 1
Children nowadays are given more freedom to pursue their interests, rather than simply following in their parents' footsteps, which can have a positive impact on their personal growth. Granted, in the pre-information age, it was difficult to access information about fields that parents were not familiar with, making it risky to deviate from the career paths they had chosen. However, with the rise of online forums and social media platforms, children can easily learn about the details of a career by reading articles or watching videos that depict a day in the life of employees in their area of interest. In addition, individuals have different needs and interests, and forcing children into fields that do not interest them may lead to dissatisfaction or even rebellion, potentially undermining their motivation and performance. Therefore, giving them freedom to explore their future career options provides them with the incentive to explore where their talents and interests lie, empowering them to make informed decisions and ultimately improving their motivation and academic performance.
·Granted-
· Expertise-
·Rebellion- 反叛
· Undermine-
· Empower-
·Informed -
Body Paragraph 2
However, children now have access to electronic devices that were once exclusively used by adults, and they generally spend significantly more time than before scrolling through their phones. This poses a potential threat to both social stability and their mental health. By nature, children are impressionable and thus highly susceptible to the information they encounter online. For instance, when playing violent mobile games that reward players for stabbing more opponents, adult users can typically distinguish between the virtual world and reality. In contrast, children might mistakenly believe that resorting to violence is acceptable—or even commendable—in real life. Therefore, if parents and educators do not set clear boundaries regarding screen time and instead give children too much freedom to consume online content, it can lead to higher rates of juvenile delinquency as well as emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, and a distorted understanding of right and wrong.
·Exclusiviely-
·Scrolling-
·Be susceptible to- 易受影响的,敏感的
Conclusion
Therefore, with the right guidance, giving children more freedom to choose their area of study and work is a positive trend, while allowing them to use smartphones without time restrictions is a negative one. The former can provide them with the incentive to learn more quickly, while the latter may potentially affect their mental health and overall development.
