Doctoral student in Construction Calculation

KTH | School of Architecture and Built Environment

APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 5, 2025

Project description

Third-cycle subject: Real estate and construction management

The Department of Real Estate and Construction Management is recruiting a doctoral student for a strategic research project in digitalization and sustainability.

The doctoral project, which is part of the postgraduate program Civil Engineering: Management, Economics and Law, focuses on the interaction between construction technology, construction materials, and construction economics and how this intersection is affected by issues around sustainability and digitalization. A main focus is on economic aspects and how digitalization enables the evaluation and development of new calculation models for the construction field.

The work will be carried out in an active and interdisciplinary research environment at the Division of Real Estate Economics and Finance, where colleagues mainly work with various quantitative methods in research.

Supervision: Decisions are made on admission.

Admission requirements

To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), the applicant must have basic eligibility in accordance with either of the following:

  • passed a second cycle degree (for example a master's degree), or
  • completed course requirements of at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 second-cycle higher education credits, or
  • acquired, in some other way within or outside the country, substantially equivalent knowledge

In addition to the above, there is also a mandatory requirement for English equivalent to English B/6.

Selection

In order to succeed as a doctoral student at KTH you need to be goal oriented and persevering in your work. During the selection process, candidates will be assessed upon their ability to:

  • independently pursue his or her work
  • collaborate with others,
  • have a professional approach and
  • analyse and work with complex issues.

The applicant must have studied property economics, or equivalent subjects, at an advanced level. Experience in numerical modeling, programming and/or data analysis is an advantage, as is knowledge of construction economics.

After the qualification requirements, great emphasis will be placed on personal skills.

To apply for the position

Apply for the position and admission through KTH's recruitment system. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the application is complete in accordance with the instructions in the advertisement.

Applications must be received at the last closing date at midnight, CET/CEST (Central European Time/Central European Summer Time).

Applications must include the following elements:

  • CV including your relevant professional experience and knowledge.
  • Application letter with a brief description of why you want to pursue research studies, about what your academic interests are and how they relate to your previous studies and future goals. (Maximum 2 pages long)
  • Copies of diplomas and grades from previous university studies and certificates of fulfilled language requirements (see above). Translations into English or Swedish if the original document is not issued in one of these languages.Copies of originals must be certified.
  • Representative publications or technical reports. For longer documents, please provide a summary (abstract) and a web link to the full text.

PhD Position Causal Representations for Open-Ended Embodied Social Intelligence

TU Delft | Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics & Computer Science

Salary range: €2901 - €3707

APPLICATION DEADLINE: June 8, 202

岗位制博士 |皇家瑞典理工大学、代尔夫特理工大学最新岗位制博士项目分享

Job description

Are you passionate about developing intelligent agents that can continuously evolve through social interactions? Do you want to contribute to cutting-edge research on generative causal models that enable adaptive collaboration in dynamic environments?

We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join our research team working on causal representations for open-ended, embodied social intelligence. This project aims to develop a groundbreaking generative framework that enables agents to continuously evolve through social interactions in unconstrained, multiparty environments.

Current AI systems struggle to gain new knowledge in dynamic environments and to reason about human behavior in unconstrained settings. We believe that embodied agents collaborating with humans require not only representations of the physical world but also rich causal models of their interaction partners. Your research will focus on identifying the causal factors that guide human behaviors and environmental changes, allowing agents to continually adapt through open-ended learning.

You will be embedded within the larger Pattern Recognition and Bioinformatics Group at TU Delft, comprising sub-groups in Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, and Human-Oriented Machine Intelligence. You will be advised by Dr. Chirag Raman (Tapri Lab, TU Delft), Dr. Jan-Willem van de Meent (AMLab, UvA), and Dr. Frans Oliehoek (Sequential Decision Making Group, TU Delft).

This project is part of a larger research effort within the Hybrid Intelligence Center, where you will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers across multiple universities and disciplines. The project specifically connects to the Robotic Surgery case study, involving close collaboration with Dr. Dalibor Vasilic at ErasmusMC.

Job requirements

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • An MSc degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, or a related field
  • Strong background in machine learning, particularly in generative latent variable modeling and/or (multi-agent) reinforcement learning.
  • Solid programming skills in Python, experience with deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, Jax).
  • Comfort with 3D mathematics and spatial reasoning concepts.
  • Good engineering skills for implementing and evaluating algorithms in real-world settings; familiarity with simulation environments (e.g. Isaac Sim) is a plus.
  • Experience with robotics platforms is a plus but not required.
  • Experience with conducting user studies is beneficial but can be developed during the PhD.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (C1 or equivalent).
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.

An up-to-date curriculum vitae, degree transcripts, a statement of purpose, and the names and the contact information (telephone number and email address) of two referees. The statement of purpose should include (1) why the applicant wants to do a PhD and why a PhD is relevant for their career, (2) why the project is of interest to the applicant, (3) a PhD proposal aligned with the proposed topic (4) evidence of skillsets aligned with the position.
