Task two:Some parents give their children everything that their children ask for or allow them to do whatever they want to do. Is this good for children? what could be consequences for these children when they grow up?

Firstly, catering to children’s every request deprives(剥夺)them of the chance to develop self-discipline and resilience(抗压能力). When children never experience refusal or frustration(挫折) in childhood, they lack the awareness of rules and the ability to cope with setbacks(困境). For example, a child who always gets expensive toys he asks for will fail to understand the value of money and the meaning of hard work, which makes him take everything for granted(视作理所当然). Moreover, unrestricted freedom will foster(滋生) selfishness and egocentrism(自我中心) in children, as they only focus on their own desires and ignore the feelings of others.

The negative impacts of parental indulgence will become more prominent when these children grow up. In their adult life, they are likely to encounter chronic(长期的) difficulties in interpersonal relationships, because their arbitrary (任性的) behaviour and lack of empathy(同理心) will alienate(疏远)their peers and colleagues. Additionally, they may face tremendous psychological distress**(痛苦) when they enter the competitive (竞争激烈的)society, as they cannot tolerate failure or criticism and tend to give up easily when facing challenges. Some may even develop maladaptive(不适应的) behaviours such as overspending or avoiding responsibilities(逃避责任,) to satisfy their unrealistic expectations.
