The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City exhibits some video games as works of art. Several games, including the 1981 game Tempest, are playable at the museum, but other games, including the 2003 game Eve Online, are shown only in video footage because they are too complex to exhibit in a playable form. Although this does mean that the interactive element of such games is not fully represented, MOMA’s choice to include Eve Online is likely intended to highlight important aspects of the game other than the experience of playing it.

Question:

The author of the text makes which point about MOMA’s choice of games to exhibit?

A. MOMA chose to exhibit Eve Online only in video footage because it is not as interactive as games like Tempest are.

B. MOMA chose to exhibit Eve Online because the museum thinks it effectively represents important features of video games other than their interactivity.

C. MOMA chose to exhibit Tempest and Eve Online because the museum thinks that, unlike the vast majority of video games, these two deserve to be considered works of art.

D. MOMA’s choice to exhibit Tempest and Eve Online does not mean that video games in general should be considered works of art.

Answer: B ✅

The British Bronze Age began when sophisticated metalworking was introduced to the British Isles around 2500 BCE, and it lasted until around 700 BCE. Collections of Bronze Age metal items (called hoards) have been found all over Britain, and while most of the objects found in these hoards are weapons or tools, some are purely decorative. Hoards such as the Horsehope Craig hoard included bronze weapons and jewelry, but a few included objects made of gold, such as the Whalley hoard, which contained bronze weapons and gold jewelry. As ancient metalsmiths in Britain gained knowledge from working metals like bronze, they were able to apply those skills to work other metals as well, but it’s not surprising that few hoards contained gold because ______

Question:

推荐

Which choice most logically completes the text?

A. gold was much rarer and more difficult to obtain than bronze.

B. not all jewelry from the Bronze Age was made of gold.

C. gold was more valued for its beauty than bronze was.

D. some hoards were found as a result of artifacts being dug up by accident.

Answer: A ✅

Ballet Nepantla of New York City is one of the many dance companies in the United States devoted to baile folklórico, a style of dance that has flourished in Mexico and in Mexican American communities alike. Although it represents the hybridization of the Indigenous dance traditions of Mexico with dances brought there by Spanish colonizers beginning in the 1500s, baile folklórico emerged with its present array of formal attributes only in the 1950s, when choreographer Amalia Hernández adapted the traditionally participatory dances of Mexico for performance before a passive audience in a theater setting, interpolating into them elements of the staging and elaborate choreography of modern dance and classical ballet.

Question:

Which quotation from a dance scholar would best support the text’s claim about the role of Amalia Hernández in the evolution of baile folklórico?

A. “The influence that modern dance and classical ballet exerted on Hernández can be seen in the complex and precisely orchestrated movements and spectator-focused orientation that continue to define baile folklórico.”

B. “By reaffirming baile folklórico as a hybrid of Indigenous and colonial Spanish traditions, Hernández’s choreography had broad societal implications, fostering a sense of collective identity in Mexico and, later, in Mexican American communities.”

C. “Hernández’s reliance on classical ballet and modern dance has been exaggerated; the subject matter and gestural vocabulary of baile folklórico as popularized by her company remain rooted in the communal dances of Indigenous and colonial Spanish societies.”

D. “Certain dances popularized by Hernández beginning in the 1950s appear in the repertoires of dance companies throughout Mexico and the United States but are nonetheless associated with specific Indigenous groups, specific colonial Spanish dances, or both.”
