雅思口语干货分享:Describe an important river in your country.

Well, off the top of my head(不假思索), the most significant river in China must be the Yangtze River, or Chang Jiang as we call it. Chang means long, so I think it just got its name from the fact that it’s the longest river in China as well as in Asia, if memory serves(如果我没记错的话). For all I know(据我所知), Yangtze river originates from(起源于) Tanggula mountains in Tibet and flows from west to east then pours into the East China Sea. My hometown, Chongqing, is one of the several megacities(大城市) situated along Yangtze River. And another important river in my hometown, the Jialing river, is one of its main tributaries(支流). There’s nothing better than enjoying the stunning sunset by the riverside at dusk. It’s my fav way to unwind. As for the reason why it is so important, I’d like to touch briefly on(简单谈一下) the hydro(水力发电的) dams on the Yangtze River. These hydropower stations play a vital role in electricity generation. But this summer, the record breaking heatwaves and low precipitation(降雨量) have caused the rivers and reservoirs(水库) to dry up, leading to a drastic fall in the energy output. To curtail(缩减)power use and conserve power for civil use(让电于民), several industrial plants were shut down. Also, lights in many shopping malls and subways have been shut down in response to the energy shortage. This really brought many inconveniences to us local residents and result in enormous economic losses to local businesses. To cut the long story short(长话短说), the Yangtze River is absolutely essential for us.
