藤校之一的达特茅斯学院宣布恢复标化要求

今天早些时候，美国八所常青藤名校之一的达特茅斯学院官方宣布，将在2025年秋季入学申请季开始，恢复对申请者标化成绩的要求。‍‍‍

达特茅斯学院（Dartmouth College）成立于1769年，经常被亲切地称为“达茅”。它是八所藤校中本科新生规模最小的一所，同时，恐怕也是在中国学生、家长心目中最“默默无闻”的一所。但是，这丝毫不影响学校高不可攀的申请难度。根据学校官方数据，2022秋季入学申请季中，达茅的总录取率仅为6.38%，从任何角度衡量，它都是一所美国“最难录取大学”。

今天的官方通知，是通过校长署名信的方式发布的。要点如下：

达茅恢复标化的要求是基于社会学研究结果，该研究显示，

This decision was guided by social science research that suggests we can improve our ability to identify students from a wide range of economic backgrounds who will succeed at Dartmouth.

我们的标化要求在新冠疫情开始后暂停……但是通过分析比较疫情前后若干年的录取数据，我们得出如下结论:

The testing requirement was paused at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic when many students were not able to take SATs and ACTs. The hiatus allowed us to look at our admissions data over several years—years in which the SAT/ACT was required and years in which it was optional.Analysis of this data…has led us to conclude that:

我们旨在遴选最有潜力学生的全面审核机制，得益于对申请者标化成绩的考量……SAT/ACT分数尤其能够帮助我们识别出那些相对资源不足的学生，而在选择性提交标化的政策下，这类学生或许会被错过。

Our holistic admissions approach to identifying the most promising students, regardless of their background, benefits from a careful consideration of testing information as part of their application package. In particular, SAT/ACTs can be especially helpful in identifying students from less-resourced backgroundswho would succeed at Dartmouth but might otherwise be missed in a test-optional environment.

标化分数不会也不应该主宰录取决定，但是它应该为录取决定提供必要的信息。

A standardized test score doesn't—and shouldn't—dictate our admissions decisions, but it should inform those decisions.

简单总结，这个决定会马上影响到今年申请的学生（即正在就读11年级的学生）。他们将会在2025年高中毕业，因此将申请2025秋季入学，即本政策开头提到的Class of 2029毕业班。

尽管很多同学不希望参加标化考试，但是通过今天达茅的决定，我们不难推测，一定会有更多顶尖大学跟进这一政策。事实上，麻省理工学院早在去年就已经宣布恢复对申请者标化的要求了。

所以，想进名校的学霸们，还是早日将敲门砖搞定吧。加油！
