西北大学怎么申请比较好？中国学生录取的多吗？

西北大学（Northwestern University）

成立于1851年, 是一所世界顶尖的私立研究型大学, 是“十大联盟”创始成员和北美顶尖大学学术联盟美国大学协会成员。多年来, 西北大学一直位列U.S.News全美综合性大学排名的Top 20以内，2024年排名为第9名。

西北大学的本科生规模近年来一直保持在8500左右。

因此，每年西北大学的本科新生规模在2000人出头，而大学的申请人数一直在持续增加中，近年来已经高达51000左右（10年前大学申请人基本在30000出头），因此西北大学的本科新生录取率一直在稳定的走低，从10年前的约15%左右一直到如今的7%左右。

以2023年秋入学为例，共计51769人申请，大学最终录取3739人，录取率为7.2%，最终2111人入学，大学本科新生入学率56.4%，入学率属于追平历史最高水平（2018年同样为56.4%）。

一个有趣的现象是，西北大学在本科申请、录取及入读的女生人数都比男生多，而大学似乎也并未出于平衡性别的原因提升男生的录取率，女生录取率一直较男生偏高，多年来一向如此。

西北大学本科新生申请通过ED + RD两种方式进行。西北大学ED录取的人数约占本科新生总人数的约50%，也就是1000人出头。

同很多大学的情况相似，西北大学的ED的录取率是要极其明显地高于RD的，近三年的ED录取率均在22%左右或以上。比如，2021年是1105录取人/4545申请人=24.3%；2022年是1109/5021=22%；2023年是1174/5207=22.5%。

但是需要注意的是，ED的高录取率是有其它助推因素的，比如校友关系户、运动员等。

在本科新生申请的时候，西北大学要求提供2封推荐信，1封来自Counselor，1封来自学科老师，但同时支持学生最多再上传2封Optional的学科老师推荐信及2封额外推荐信。也就是说，如果满打满算，申请西北大学可以提交6封推荐信。如果能够有较多的推荐人进行有效的推荐，应该也是能够增加被录取的概率的。

申请西北大学可以通过Common App或者Coalition，但是西北大学对系统的主文书及附加信息部分并非强制要求。取而代之的是西北大学自身的3篇小文书（1篇必选 + 2篇可选）。

西北大学共有11个学院，具体包括：Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences（文理学院），School of Communication（传播学院），School of Education & Social Policy（教育及社会政策学院），McCormick School of Engineering & Applied Science（工程及应用科学学院），Medill School of Journalism, Media, Integrated Marketing Communications（新闻、传媒及整合市场传播学院），Bienen School of Music（音乐学院），The Graduate School（研究生院），Northwestern Pritzker School of Law（法学院），Kellogg School of Management（管理学院），Feinberg School of Medicine（医学院），School of Professional Studies（职业教育学院）。此外，西北大学在卡塔尔多哈还有一个国际校区。

西北大学全校共有国际4808名国际学生在读（不含访问学者等）。

西北大学的国际生占全校在读学生的25%，但是国际生在本科阶段的占比仅为10%，与其他美国顶尖大学本科国际生的占比基本一致。

值得注意的是，无论是在本科阶段还是在硕博阶段，中国籍学生都是最大的国际生群体。在本科阶段，中国学生占全部国际生的19%，而在硕博阶段中国学生则占全部国际生的49%。

中国籍学生是西北大学最大的留学生群体，共有1867名学生在读，其中硕士1105人，是绝对的大头，博士551人，交换生等非学历教育学生17人，本科生194人。按照全校194名在读中国籍本科学生来粗略计算，平均每年入读不到50人。

注意，大一入读的人数会相对较少，因为还会有一部分中国籍的学生通过转学进入到西北大学。加拿大籍学生是西北大学在本科阶段第二大留学生群体，共有78名学生在读，也就是每年新入学不足20人。
