Before I gave this speech, I received a lot of feedback from my friends. Many of them told me my topic was too political, too controversial, and that I should present it more euphemistically. For a moment, I actually considered changing it. However, then I realized something:If the truth can be sugarcoated and made more comfortable, is it the truth at all?

推荐

As a 14-year-old, I recognize that I couldn't solve centuries of inequality with a single speech. But I also felt that staying silent would mean accepting the idea that these issues are simply too uncomfortable to talk about.I wanted to use my voice not just for myself, but for the millions of women and girls who have experienced injustice because of the systems or governments around them.

When writing this speech it was actually particularly challenging. I had to see the truth without the disguise, reading stories from victims all over the world, many of them leaving me gagged and appalled. However, this also convinced me that speaking about this matter is necessary, andif my speech encourages even one person to question an unfair belief or to better understand what feminism truly stands for, then I believe it has fulfilled its purpose.

Some writing tips I would like to share, is to choose a topic that you are genuinely passionate about, becausepassion is what makes a speech memorable and motivational. When you truly care about what you're writing, your emotions come across more naturally, and it makes you more authentic and charismatic.

Also,do not be afraid of difficult topics. If a subject matters to you, don't avoid it simply because it is controversial. Instead, make sure your points are well-researched and supported by credible evidence.

When I was just a child I thought the world was either black and white, fair or injust, right or wrong. I thought equality was already achieved. But growing up felt like watching color slowly bleach into a utopia I didn’t question before. I began seeing the shades between. Realizing for many women and girls, the rules were never the same to begin with.

I remember going on my youtube “for you” page and seeing there was a debate between anti-feminists and feminists. I wondered why? Why is this even a question to begin with. Feminism stands for equal rights for all. And We as young women, somehow, are labeled as extremists, misandrists simply for believing we deserve the same opportunities as a man would. Since when did asking for fairness become something radical? Since when did wanting to be heard become something controversial? We are not asking to be above men. In fact, we are just asking to be given the same chances without having to prove we are worthy of them first. And judges, this is where I began to see feminism differently.

Feminism is often mistaken for misandry, hate.towards.men. however it’s the opposite... and i bring this up because this isn’t just fight for women, it’s a fight for all of us, both genders.

And what’s interesting judges, is a few months ago I read a report by theguardian.com about a woman in Afghanistan who was beaten by her husband with a cable wire. When she sought justice, a judge told her, “A little anger and a few beatings won’t kill you.” Under Taliban law, men are allowed to beat their wives as long as they do not leave severe injuries, and for this, they may face 15 days of imprisonment 15 days ladies and gentleman , 15 days. No words can I be able to describe how enraged and gagged I was. It is absolutely repulsive, how many more women are to endure this humiliation, how many more deaths need to be seen just to prove that what humanity is doing is wrong. How many more bodies have to fall to prove that this is insane? When a system tells a women that their pain is insignificant, it can be worse than physical harm, it erases their humanity.

Another major issue is Sexual violence, a reality too many women live with every single day. Around the world, women are harassed in the streets, silenced in their workplaces, and made to feel unsafe even in spaces that are meant to protect them. According to nomadsister.com in India women should avoid traveling alone at night. This shifts the burden onto the wrong people. Telling women to avoid traveling alone at night isn’t really about the women’s behavior it’s the failure to address why that fear exists in the first place, it comes from men who choose to assault and harm. Yet instead of confronting that, society often teaches women to shrink their freedom: don’t go out, don’t be alone, don’t attract too much attention. according to the US department of justice “78 women are raped each hour in America”.

Women should have never have to plan their lives around avoiding violence. And The culture surrounding it the doubt, the blame, the expectation to stay quiet. Too often, are women told to change how they dress, how they speak, how they exist. Too often are they left with no voice to ask for a solution.

Now, I know when a problem is posed it’s suppose to offer a potential solution to “fix” it. But how do I compress centuries of inequality into one simple point? How do u create a solution intricate enough to address systemic injustic, yet simple enough to explain in a few mins?

The truth is, feminism is not a problem with a single cure. So no, I cannot stand here and pretend, i cannot promise to solve feminism today. But I can ask you to move society one step closer to fairness than it was yesterday. Firstly, I hope we learn not only to protect our daughters, but also to educate our sons. You cannot kill a weed by trimming the leaves you must pull them out by the roots. For far too long women have been told to cover themselves up because MEN cannot control where their eyes should be. And for FAR TOO long have women been under the oppression disguised as “tradition,” “protection,” or “discipline.” Feminism is about challenging the status quo, questioning the norms that have been accepted for far too long. So Perhaps feminism is not about achieving perfection. Perhaps it is simply about refusing to leave the world as unjust as we found it.

Ladies and gentlemen, When I was younger, I believed the world was simple, black and white, fair or injust, right or wrong. But growing up taught me that injustice is created by normalization. And we can’t afford to do that. We cannot afford to look at suffering and label it as extremists. Because behind every label are real people, real lives, and real voices being silenced. So I ask you, judges, if we continue to ignore these injusts, what does that say about us? If we stay silent, are we allowing it to continue? And by allowing this to happen, what future are we trying to create?

Because the question is no longer whether feminism is needed or not, it is, how much longer can we justify a world as it is right now?

Thank you
