A-level
A-level

The A-level program with the essence of holistic education
has been established at BIBA
BIBA officially launches the highly anticipated A-level curriculum, offering students a broader academic development space and diverse opportunities.
About BIBA A-level curriculum
What are the qualifications of the A-level curriculum?
Since 2015, BIBA has become a strategic partner in China of the University of Cambridge International Examinations, with six Cambridge examination centers including BIBA Beijing, BIBA Tianjin, BIBA Guiyang, etc., and has the qualification to authorize other schools to conduct IGCSE and A-level examinations. BIBA Beijing started implementing the IGCSE curriculum in 2016 and is offering the A-level curriculum this year.
BIBA already has a well-developed IB curriculum, so why introduce A-level?
The IB curriculum is widely recognized globally, and the A-level curriculum also has a broad influence and recognition in many countries and regions. A-level is widely used in countries such as the UK and Australia, and the results students achieve in A-level exams can be directly used to apply to universities in many countries, including the UK, the US, Australia, and Canada. BIBA offers both IB and A-level curricula to better meet the needs of students and parents, allowing students to choose the most suitable curriculum based on their learning goals and future plans.
The A-level curriculum is particularly suitable for students who have shown high talent and a strong interest in specific subjects, excel in a particular subject area or direction, and through in-depth study and professional development in the A-level curriculum, they can further enhance their knowledge and skills in that subject area, laying a solid foundation for their future study and development in the field.
The A-level curriculum requires students to take only 3-4 subject exams, making it relatively easy for students with different academic backgrounds to enter the course. Therefore, the introduction of the A-level curriculum brings students with different cultural backgrounds to BIBA, enriching the diversity of campus culture.
In summary, the introduction of the A-level curriculum is to better meet the needs of students and parents, to provide more choices and development opportunities, and also to enhance the school’s international competitiveness and attractiveness. Through the dual track of IB and A-level curricula, BIBA can create a more personalized and diverse learning environment for students, helping them succeed in their future academic and professional paths.
How are the A-level curriculum and teaching staff?
The school’s A-level curriculum covers a wide range of subject areas, including but not limited to mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, sociology, psychology, literature, etc., aiming to provide students with diverse choices and comprehensive academic guidance. The teaching team has rich experience in IB education, and all teachers have participated in IGCSE and A-level subject teaching training organized by Cambridge officials, committed to combining the comprehensive learning skills development concept of the IB curriculum with the professional characteristics of the A-level curriculum, helping students achieve excellent results in standardized exams.
Does BIBA’s A-level have any unique curriculum advantages?
BIBA A-level program is imbued with the essence of holistic education. As we all know, the DP curriculum can more comprehensively develop students’ various skills. Since its authorization in 2015, BIBA DP curriculum has achieved significant achievements in cultivating students’ academic achievements, leadership, and social responsibility, focusing on cultivating students’ critical thinking, independent learning ability, and interdisciplinary perspective, and paying attention to students’ comprehensive quality and personality development, aiming to cultivate future leaders with international vision and comprehensive quality, so that students have stronger competitiveness and adaptability in their academic and career paths. Even in the A-level curriculum, which emphasizes results, BIBA deeply ingrains these qualities of holistic education. For example, the school has introduced the DP’s CAS course design, encouraging students to actively participate in various services, activities, and creative projects to cultivate students’ comprehensive skills and leadership abilities. The school also offers independent research projects to meet the different learning needs and abilities of students.
IGCSE and A-level are part of the British high school curriculum, and BIBA IGCSE curriculum has a history of over 10 years, achieving brilliant results in past teaching, with an average pass rate of nearly 100% and an average excellence rate of nearly 30%. In 2017, BIBA student T stood out from 85,700 examinees and won the “Top in the World” award with a score of 96 in CSL (Chinese as a Second Language), one of only eight students worldwide to receive the award, and the only winner in the China region. In 2021, student J achieved excellent results with eight As in IGCSE, and ICT won first place in the country. In the past two years, many students have achieved A and A grades, laying a solid academic foundation for their university applications and further higher education development. A-level is a continuation of the IGCSE curriculum, A-level is a continuation of the IGCSE curriculum, and BIBA's steady academic foundation and thorough understanding of curriculum design over the years have given it the confidence and capability to successfully launch the A-level program. With the dual-track setup of A-level and DP courses, BIBA offers students more learning opportunities and development choices, striving to create a learning environment that combines academic excellence with the philosophy of holistic education.
How should I choose a curriculum system?
Both the IBDP and A-level curricula can prepare students adequately for university entry. However, due to differences in curriculum design, they are more suitable for different types of students. The IBDP curriculum offers six subjects and three core courses, which are more suitable for students with strong academic abilities, balanced performance across various subjects, and the ability to participate in both curricular and extracurricular activities. The A-level curriculum allows students to apply to universities based on their results in 3-4 subjects, making it suitable for students who excel in specific subject areas. Students who choose to study A-level courses will, during their 9th and 10th grades, study BIBA’s most mature and high-quality IGCSE curriculum alongside all their peers, and in the second semester of 10th grade, they will choose the curriculum system they wish to study.
BIBA already has multiple program courses, such as the STP Program and the classic DP Advantage Course. What is the relationship and difference between the A-level curriculum and these courses?
Apart from the DP curriculum, the school also offers the STP Arts and Sports Excellence Program, in collaboration with the well-known arts and sports listed group ACG, to help students achieve a balanced development between academics and arts. The school also supports students within the program to take AP exams, enhancing their application competitiveness. Therefore, studying at BIBA is like choosing a buffet. According to the different characteristics and learning needs of each student, the program director and guidance counselors will intervene to provide in-depth planning for each student, flexibly combining DP, A-level, AP, or arts and sports courses to create the most suitable path for their education.
What is the new enrollment policy for the courses?
BIBA is open for applications from outstanding students who will be entering the 9th, 10th, and 11th grades (Junior 3, Senior 1, and Senior 2) in 2025. For students with exceptionally excellent academic performance, BIBA will offer exemption from entrance exams or scholarship support. Students about to enter Junior 3 and Senior 1 will study the IGCSE curriculum at BIBA, with nearly thirty subjects to choose from. Students entering Senior 2 will embark on the A-level curriculum, aiming for top universities around the world.
(For Haidian and Xicheng districts, students should rank within the top 3000; for Chaoyang district, within the top 2000; for Dongcheng district, within the top 1500; and for other districts, within the top 500-1000.)
How does the application planning for students in the A-level curriculum work?
The college counselling team at BIBA has years of experience in multi-national joint application and prestigious university cases, mastering application strategies for countries such as the UK, the US, Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand. They are skilled in identifying students' academic interests and strengths, fully assisting them in maximizing their strengths and minimizing their weaknesses in their application planning, and creating personalized university plans for them to successfully apply to prestigious universities around the world.
Before students enter the IGCSE and A-level courses, they will have one-on-one planning sessions with the academic team and university guidance to determine subject choices and planning strategies based on their individual characteristics, academic abilities, and application intentions. Throughout the entire high school learning process, the academic team and college counselling team work closely together to provide comprehensive academic and university application support to students and their families.
What resources can A-level students access at BIBA?
Students in the A-level, DP, and STP programs, among others, have equal access to BIBA’s on-campus and off-campus resources, including teachers, university guidance, clubs, after-school services, sports teams, and field research. The school will also develop more targeted plans and programs based on specific learning needs for different grades or projects.
The launch of BIBA A-level curriculum will open up broader academic opportunities for students, helping them achieve success in their future academic and professional paths. We welcome parents and students to join us in opening a new chapter in academic development! Let’s witness the growth and glory of our students on their academic journey together!
