BASIS International & Bilingual Schools · China (BIBS · C) continues to set the standard for exceptional educator preparation through its annual Summer Institute, a professional learning program that is the beginning of every new faculty member’s journey within our network. BIBS · C’s eleventh Summer Institute welcomed new teachers, new and returning deans and administrators, and operations staff from all 13 BIBS · C schools to the BASIS International School Shenzhen campus for four days of intensive training centered around the theme “Building a Strong Foundation for Excellence.

中国·贝赛思国际/双语学校通过一年一度的暑期培训,持续树立培养卓越教师的新标杆。作为体系内的重点专业学习项目,暑期培训是每位新聘教师在中国·贝赛思国际/双语学校体系内教育征程的起点。今年的第十一届暑期培训,汇聚了来自13个校区的新聘教师,以及新聘、留任学生督导和教学管理人员,和行政管理人员。大家齐聚深圳贝赛思国际学校,共同参与为期四天、以“共筑卓越根基”为主题的高密度培训。

The Summer Institute opened with an inspiring video looking back over the network’s first decade and looking to future school openings in 2026 and 2027. The keynote speakers established the philosophical foundation that would guide the institute's work, emphasizing that education, especially in the age of AI, is not just about passing on knowledge but also shaping character and emotional resilience. They highlighted how a teacher’s work goes beyond just building skills and knowledge; it also builds a belief in what is possible, both for the students and the world they will shape. This understanding of the impact of teaching became the cornerstone for preparing educators to achieve excellence in their classrooms.

本次暑期培训以振奋人心的视频开场,回顾了中国·贝赛思国际/双语学校十年发展历程,并展望2026、2027年即将开设的新校区。随后的主旨演讲为本次培训工作奠定了理念基础:教育,尤其在人工智能飞速发展的今天,不只是知识的传递,更在于塑造品格和情感韧性。这强调了教师的职责不仅在于培养学生的技能与学识,更在于塑造他们对自我与影响未来世界的信念。正是这种对于教育深远影响的理解,成为引领教师追求卓越教学的根本所在。

Dr. Mark Reford, Chief Executive Head of Schools, spoke about BIBS · C’s commitment to teaching excellence, saying, “Our community holds teaching in profound reverence and our schools are organized to reflect this.” He explained how all academic managers serve as personal stewards of the teaching culture, essentially acting as head teachers who lead by example and prioritize mentoring teachers above all else, “creating a support system where educators feel more effective when they leave than when they arrived.”

而后,总校长 Mark Reford 博士强调了中国·贝赛思国际/双语学校对卓越教学的坚守。他指出:“在我们的教育共同体中,教学被赋予至高无上的地位,学校的一切组织架构都是以此为核心而设立。”他指出,所有教学管理人员都是教学文化的掌舵人,应以身作则,优先为教师成长提供指导和支持,“搭建一个强大的支持体系,确保每一位教师在整个职业旅程中持续精进,成为高效能的教育者”。

Dr. Midge Connolly, Senior Chief Instructional Officer, affirmed the importance of teaching, saying, “It is one of the most complex and consequential professions there is. Teaching is both science and art. It demands data-driven decision-making and emotional intuition. It requires intellectual rigor and deep empathy. And at the center of it all are the relationships we build with students—relationships grounded in trust, consistency, and care.” Within the shifting educational landscape, she noted that “one thing remains constant: the power of a skilled, compassionate, and committed teacher to change a life.”

高级首席教学官Midge Connolly博士也再次强调教学的重要性。“教育是最复杂却最有影响力的职业之一。教育既是科学也是艺术,需要依据数据驱动的理性决策和情感直觉,强调严谨的思维和深度的共情。而教育的核心,正是我们与学生建立在互信、一致、关怀基础上的关系。”她补充道:“无论教育环境如何变化,有一点始终不变:一位有能力、有热情、有责任心的教师,能够改变学生的一生。”

Program Expansion and Content

This year, the Summer Institute continued to expand, including but not limited to onboarding and professional learning. The extended format allowed for more in-depth training and skill development, ensuring every new faculty member left with a strong foundational understanding of BIBS · C.

今年,暑期培训持续升级,包括入职介绍与专业学习,更充裕的时间安排让培训能够更深入展开,确保新聘教师能全面了解中国·贝赛思国际/双语学校文化、组织架构与教学目标

The program followed a carefully designed progression beginning with an immersion into the network culture and organizational structures. Participants gradually moved deeper into curriculum expectations, assessment practices, and feedback systems that define the academic program. The final days focused on instructional strategies that bring BIBS · C classrooms to life, while also equipping new faculty with essential knowledge about Professional Growth Pathways, evaluation procedures, and grading systems.

本次培训循序渐进、环环相扣:从全面融入中国·贝赛思国际/双语学校体系文化与组织架构开始,逐步深入到充满体系学术特色的课程目标、评估方式与反馈体系。后几天的培训聚焦于中国·贝赛思国际/双语课堂教学策略的探索,最后以教师专业提升路径、评估机制与评分体系的梳理收官。

New sessions introduced this year included “BASIS 101” to clarify organizational structures and acronyms, “Use of AI” to explore emerging technologies and their impact on classroom learning, and specialized training for deans on fostering academic support and positive school culture. The use of small breakout groups, over 280 in total, maximized participation and collaboration.

本次暑期培训新增多个全新环节:“BASIS 101”有助于教师快速学习体系架构和常见缩写,“AI的运用”讨论新兴人工智能科技在课堂中的影响,以及专为学生督导设计的培训,聚焦于加强学术支持和建设积极校风。全场设置了280余场分组讨论,最大化提升了教师的参与度与协作效果。

Every session at the Summer Institute was designed and led by BIBS · C’s academic and operational leaders, ensuring authentic transmission of network culture and values while providing immediately applicable training.

Rather than simply delivering content, the academic training leaders modeled the teaching practices they expect to see in classrooms across the network. Workshop began with clearly articulated learning and language objectives, employed real-time formative assessment techniques such as strategic checks for understanding and reflective exit tickets, and utilized structured discussion protocols that maximized participant engagement and collaboration.

不同于单向灌输内容,培训团队通过自身示范,展现了体系内期望教师在课堂中所采用的教学方式。工作坊以明确的学习和语言目标为起点,结合检查理解、结课小测等即时形成性评估,并运用结构化讨论流程,最大化提升教师参与与互动效果。

Sessions integrated classroom management strategies and co-teaching techniques, often featuring video examples from actual BIBS · C classrooms to bridge theory with practice. Academic language supports and English language learning strategies were woven through all content areas, ensuring that every participant understood how to support multilingual learners effectively. This approach meant that participants learned effective teaching practices while experiencing them as learners themselves, making their eventual transition to facilitating these same techniques with students far more intuitive and successful.

今年的暑期培训还融入了中国·贝赛思国际/双语学校真实课堂视频案例,辅助讲解课堂管理策略与合作教学技巧,把理论与实践紧密结合。学术语言支持与英语学习技巧贯穿所有培训模块,帮助老师们了解如何更有效地支持多语学习者。老师们在培训中以“学习者”的身份亲身体验有效的教学实践,为今后在课堂中的应用打下基础。

Leadership and Operations Development

The Summer Institute’s comprehensive approach extended well beyond new teacher preparation. New and returning deans and administrators received role-specific preparation aligned with network priorities while addressing the unique challenges of educational leadership at BIBS·C schools. Academic leaders also participated in job-alike round tables to exchange ideas, share best practices, and align on network goals.

暑期培训不仅限于新聘教师的培养,新聘与留任学生督导和管理人员也加入了培训行列。他们接受了与岗位职责相匹配、契合体系工作重点的专业培训,同时共同应对各校区在教学管理上的独特挑战。教学管理人员还参加了同岗圆桌会议,交流思路,分享成功做法,确保在体系目标上达成统一。

On the operations side, staff members learned about core responsibilities and collaboration practices from leaders across ten departments. Through case studies and hands-on discussions, they gained a thorough understanding of the norms and expectations that contribute to BIBS · C’s “one system, one standard” philosophy. Informal exchanges during breaks further strengthened connections between colleagues across the network.

来自集团及各校区的行政管理人员也参与本次暑期培训,研习了集团十大职能中心的核心工作与协作经验,通过生动的案例分享和实例讨论,进一步理解了“一个体系、一个标准”的运营理念。参训人员不仅系统学习了各职能模块的规范要求,更在热烈的分组研讨中碰撞出智慧火花。培训间歇的互动交流,让来自全国各地的老师们在轻松愉快的氛围中增进了解、共享经验。带着满满的干货与充沛的热情,老师们返回各自岗位,为新学年按下高效协同的启动键!

Network Building

One of the Summer Institute’s most powerful aspects is how it connects colleagues across the network. By bringing together faculty and staff from all BIBS·C campuses, participants experience firsthand that they are part of a larger, interconnected educational community rather than isolated individual schools.

暑期培训最具价值的意义之一在于,为各校区同事搭建了交流与协作的桥梁。来自中国·贝赛思国际/双语学校不同校区的教职工齐聚一堂,他们亲身感受到自己并非处于孤立的个体学校,而是属于一个更大、更紧密互联的教育共同体。

Beyond training together, this network-first approach enables a mathematics teacher in Guangzhou to easily collaborate with a colleague in Nanjing or discuss pacing strategies with a Course Advisor in Chengdu. It means Heads of Division and Heads of Schools are supported by the collective wisdom of a community of leaders, each contributing to the network’s shared vision and implementation.

不仅仅是培训,这种体系优先的理念让广州校区的数学老师可以与南京校区同事高效合作,或与成都校区课程顾问共同探讨教学进度安排。学部主任和校长也可以受益于管理人员大家庭的集体智慧,共同推动体系愿景搭建和落实。

Dr. Connolly captured the importance of these connections perfectly when she encouraged participants to “start building the relationships that will carry you through the year. We are not just a group of individuals—we are a team, a network, a community. And together, we are stronger.”

Looking Forward

As participants departed Shenzhen to join returning teachers at their respective campuses for on-site training, they carried with them a clear understanding of the BIBS · C mission and culture, supportive relationships built with colleagues across the network, and the confidence that comes from thorough preparation.

随着暑期培训在深圳落幕,参训人员将带着对体系使命与文化的深刻理解、跨校区建立的同事情谊,以及充分准备的信心,回到各自校园,与返校教师一同投入到新学年的实地培训。

The Summer Institute is just the beginning of BIBS · C’s ongoing commitment to faculty growth and excellence. Throughout the year, teachers continue their professional journey through regular coaching sessions, professional learning days, professional learning communities, and collaborative meetings while deepening the network connections begun during the Summer Institute.
