STEAM WEEK

STEAM Week:Exploring a New Future for Eco-Fashion Through Creativity and Collaboration
STEAM Week in third grade was an exciting blend of creativity, collaboration, and hands-on discovery! Our young designers spent the week exploring a meaningful global issue: the growing clothing crisis. With landfills around the world filling up with discarded clothing, students were challenged to think deeply about one essential question— How can we rethink, reuse, and reinvent what we wear to help protect our planet?
A key part of the experience was the STEAM Workbook, which guided students through four collaborative sections: design, create, write, and present. Each group assigned roles, outlined responsibilities, and evaluated both individual and team effectiveness. The workbook kept them organized, on track, and aware of every expectation from start to finish. At the end of the week, students completed a reflection to hold themselves and their teammates accountable for their contributions— reinforcing not only creativity but also responsibility and teamwork.
To tackle the challenge, students engaged in a cross-curricular STEAM journey connecting English, Chinese, science, social studies, and math. In math, they measured materials and planned outfit structures with accuracy and logic. Through science and social studies, they investigated the environmental impact of fast fashion and explored global solutions to textile waste. In English and Chinese, they crafted speeches explaining their design choices and practiced delivering them confidently and clearly.
Then came the most anticipated moment: the fashion design challenge! Using recycled materials from home, each group created an original outfit, experimenting with cardboard, fabric scraps, paper, plastic, and more. They brainstormed ideas, sketched designs, tested materials, and solved engineering challenges— strengthening both creativity and collaboration.
The week concluded with a high-energy fashion show in the auditorium, where students proudly modeled their outfits and presented their bilingual speeches. The enthusiasm, innovation, and teamwork on display made the event truly unforgettable.
STEAM Week showcased not only creativity and ingenuity, but also collaboration, organization, and accountability. We are incredibly proud of our students' imagination, dedication, and willingness to think like global citizens and problem-solvers.
