Dr. Achebe
Today we will discuss a topic that is important for students and the public at large: namely, how to prioritize spending, given the limited funding available for schools. Some people think schools should spend more money on school teachers’ salaries because, if the salaries improved, more qualified people will be attracted to the profession. Others believe the money should be spent on additional resources such as books and computers. Which viewpoint do you agree with?
Kelly:
I believe that increasing teachers' salaries will improve the quality of education. If they earn more money, people will consider teaching as a viable profession rather than opting for private sector jobs. We need the brightest minds in the classrooms.
Paul:
I acknowledge that school teachers already earn a decent salary and provide high-quality education. I'm not certain how much of an impact increasing their salaries would have. Nonetheless, schools always require new equipment or facilities. Knowledge and technology are constantly evolving, and we need to prepare students with the most up-to-date materials.
1. "given the limited funding available for schools."
3."more qualified people will be attracted to the profession".
4. “books and computers”
I side with Kelly. I also believe that schools should prioritize increasing teachers' salaries over investing in other educational resources.Teachers play a pivotal role in students' developmentthat extends far beyond what textbooks or computers can offer. They not only conveycomplex knowledgebut also answer students' questions on various life issues, including relationships, and evenguide juvenile delinquents onto the right track. However, despite their significance, teachers often find themselves underpaid. The average annual income for a teacher is approximately ten thousand dollars, roughly equivalent to that of a construction worker.Consequently, many educators are forced to take on part-time jobs or private tutoring sessions just to make ends meet, compromising their availability to students in need.If schools were to increase their salaries, teachers would be more willing and able togo the extra milefor their students. This could include staying after school toaddress individual questions or tailoring lesson plans to better cater to diverse learning needs. Therefore, if the aim is to foster a more effective educational environment, schools would be wise to focus on adequately compensating their teaching staff.

Doctor Diaz:
As you approach graduation, you may be considering your next steps for further education. Some opt to enroll full-time to complete an advanced degree as quickly as possible. Others choose to work while slowly progressing towards a degree. Given these options, I'm curious to know your thoughts. After finishing your undergraduate studies, do you prefer pursuing an advance degree full-time or continuing work while studying part-time?
Andrew:
I think it's better to go to college full-time instead of trying to balance part-time classes and a full-time job. For me, I know l wouldn't be able to focus on my studies if l was exhausted from work all the time. Full-time college allows me to put all my energy into my classes and get the most out of my education. Trying to do both college and work full-time seems way too stressful for me to handle. I'd rather get my degree done faster by being a full time student.
Claire:
I think going to college part-time while working is better because I cause what l learn in class at my job right away. The classes feel more relevant when I'm able to apply the material to real work situationsInstead of just memorizing concepts, I get to see how they work in practice. And getting work experience while I study looks good on my resume. I think balancing the two helps me get more out of my classes and prepares me for my career at the same time. I'd rather take ciasses part-time and work than just study full-time.
I agree with Andrew. Trying to take classes while working full-time is incredibly challenging. In the end, one mayend upnot performing well in either area. Nowadays, people's work schedules are incredibly hectic:not only do they have to commute early in the morning, but they also have to manage various tasks during the day, including attending long and tedious meetings. If, on top of that, they have to attend courses after work or on weekends, they might find themselvesstaying up late to read papers, rushing to write reflections, or even giving up family gatherings during holidays to participate in group discussions. Then they would drag their weary bodies to work the next day. This pattern could lead not only to decreased work efficiency and increased mistakes but also to a poor absorption of the complex knowledge required in their courses.Ultimately, they might fail to succeed in both domains. Therefore, I would advise against pursuing a degree while working full-time.
