Task 3:

Eavesdropping

Many animals that live in groups develop an alarm call system, When one group member spots a predator, it makes a warning sound, This sound, or alarm call, warns the others in the group of danger. Researchers have found that certain other species are also able to hear these sounds and to understand what they mean-a practice known as eavesdropping. Eavesdropping has proven quite beneficial to these species.Rather than constantly watch for predators themselves, they eavesdrop on the vocal communication of another species, distinguish between the different calls, and take defensive action when necessary.

I just finished in an article that describe this particular phenomenon. Scientists were studying a type of monkey called a Diana monkey.

What they were particularly interested in was learning about the different sounds these monkeys were using to communicate. So a few researchers spend time observing these monkeys in their natural habitat. Now one of the main predators of the Diana monkey is the eagle, and eagle can swap down and grab these little monkeys in their class.

So one of the researchers noticed that whenever there was an eagle in the area, the first monkey to see the eagle would make a specific kind of sound. Then when the other monkeys heard this particular sound, they would run away to protect themselves. Now the monkey has other predators, of course.

And what also became clear was that the monkeys were using different sounds to indicate different types of predators. So anyway, back to the eagle. The observers began to notice that another animals seem to be responding to one of the sounds made by the monkeys.

This other species was a kind of bird called the horn bill. Now, the eagle is also a predator of the morning bill. So as you'd expect, when an eagle approach, a monkey would make the eagle warning sound, so the other monkeys could run away. But what researchers noticed over and over again was that whenever the monkeys gave the eagle warning, the horn bills also seem to understand, and they responded by flying away. And since eagles rely on the element of surprise to catch their prey, they were prevented from catching either the monkeys or the horn bills every time.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Students should be required to do homework while on vacations.

Task 2

Task 3

Task 4

A卷:【综合写作】阅读:翼龙 (pterosaur) 出生后需要父母保护飞行的三个理由1. community life(居住习惯)2. embryo(胚胎)3. similarity to birds听力一一反驳‌:1. Doctor AchebeIn behavioral psychology, a “habit loop” links cue, routine, and reward. Building healthy habits - like regular exercise, balanced eating, or consistent sleep - often fails because motivation fluctuates and environments tigger old routines. Some scholars argue that self-regulation and personal values are the key drivers, while others emphasize social support, coaching, and structural changes such as remainders of healthier defaults. Do you believe forming healthy habits relies more on personal effort or on help from outside? Why?ClaireI think personal effort matters most because habits require daily choices when no one is watching. For example, I started running by setting a clear goal and tracking my progress. External remainders helped, but without internal commitment, I would have ignored them.PaulI disagree; outside her is often more effective because it reshapes your environment. When my friend and I meal-prepped together, I ate healthier almost automatically, and a nutrition app kept me accountable. Support makes the healthy option easier, especially when stress reduces willpower.

B卷【综合写作】主题:scholars have long debated whether the treasure collections described in the Copper Scroll are real or just imaginary细节暂缺【学术讨论】Doctor GuptaImagine that you have just given a presentation to your classmates or coworkers and you want to know how well you performed. Do you prefer to watch a recording of your presentation and work by yourself to identify your weaknesses or have classmates or coworkers who attended your presentation identify your weaknesses and discuss them with you?ClaireOur classmates or coworkers come from different backgrounds, so they can evaluate the presentation from different perspectives. Some problems may be overlooked due to our own subjective feelings, but others can provide an objective point of view, pointing out our strengths and weaknesses.PaulReceiving feedback from others will make me feel more encouraged and supported, which can motivate me to improve my presentation skills. In addition, by listening to different advice and suggestions, l can develop a more personal and detailed understanding of my areas for improvement.
